Moon Gallery Mission

The Moon Gallery aims to become the first permanent, physical art gallery on the Moon.

While planting the seeds of a future interplanetary culture on the Moon, we are working right here on Earth to bridge the gap between space science and art through meetings, workshops, art-science education, exhibitions, and conferences.

Our collection of one cubic centimetre artifacts works to cultivate a more human, cultural base that includes essential components to provoke thought and creativity. This collection of concepts are lessons from our collective experience on Earth that will help evolve human culture on the Moon and beyond.

Space Missions

First Off Planet Art Gallery

On February 19, 2022, The Moon Gallery, in collaboration with Nanoracks, launched 64 artifacts on a 11-month-long mission. It traveled aboard NG-17 Cygnus to reach the International Space Station, and become the first off-planet art gallery in human history. The gallery included art pieces from artists from Asia, Europe, North America, South America, and Africa.

While it is hoped that the gallery sparked conversation and brought joy to the astronauts aboard the space station, its mission also had a scientific purpose. The Moon Gallery was installed inside a Nanoracks Nanolab, serving as moving targets for camera observations and performance tests. The gallery offers a diverse range of materials and behaviors for the camera to detect, and in return, the artists have had an opportunity to learn about how their artworks performed in microgravity.
