Two massive space orbs reimagined as miniscule dots, slickly packaged and ready for market. The moon and the earth have both been handcrafted, painted, and mounted on printed backer cards. Each is sealed behind a plastic blister bubble, which authentically reproduces the manner in which most consumer products are packaged today.
The earth’s package reads “A Smooth, Beautiful Marble”, and the moon’s package says “A Glowing, Effervescent Tablet”; these titles suggest the disorienting misperception of scale I feel when seeing the heavenly bodies from astronomical distances.
The packages both proclaim “I would really like to swallow” these orbs, a wink and a nod to my intrusive thoughts which arise when I see perfectly round and smooth little spheres. I like to believe such thoughts are a common human experience.
The backs of the packages display a list of features for each item. The earth boasts it is “Round, Wet, Has Man”, whereas the moon counters with “Round, Dry, No Man”. Truly a comprehensive list, I think the marketing team deserves congratulations.
