Earthling-Conduit of Emotions, contained in a 3D cylinder plexi glass, measuring 5mm x 5mm x 5mm, is the shadow of a human figure, my figure (the artist), transformed into a lace pattern, visualizing connections within and between us. The lace form of this image with its twists and turns, passing from black to white and negative to positive, illustrates the twists and turns of life in each of us. The story of Earthling-Conduit of Emotions began as a Stem Cell Potential in 2015 when I was invited to take part in an ESA (European Space Agency) Moon Simulation Mission. There, I experienced the feeling of isolation that one might feel in outer space. This led to my proposal for two art projects which could help to alleviate astronauts’ feelings of isolation and connect them with Earth. One of these was my lace figure Stem Cell Potential – proposed as a tattoo, to keep the astronauts on space missions in tune with the Earthling within them, where the tattoo of the Stem Cell Potential would be their constant companion, a reminder of their connection to Earth, and what it means to be an Earthling.
Conduit of Empathy1 is my collaboration with Space.si which was installed on June 2nd 2026 in Kenya, Nairobi at the Jomo Kenyatta University. Space.si is a Slovenian organisation that aims to democratize access to space. Through constant dialog with SPACE.SI, the Nemo satellite monitors river basins in Kenya and helps prevent flash floods that can leave behind much devastation. Conduit of Empathy1 is an integration of satellite technology, digital twinning and art. My goal was to integrate advanced satellite technologies with multiscale digital twin models for improving water, environment and resilience to climate conditions in Kenya and around the world.
Stem Cell Potential aka Earthling, in further collaboration with the Space.si Centre of Excellence has led to Earthling -Conduit of Emotions, which visualizes and expresses the interconnectivity existing within us, from our bodies when viewed on the cellular micro level to society on a planetary level, and even at the level of stars at an intergalactic level. We are all part of this multidimensional and multifunctional pattern, which is like lace… everyone is connected, sustaining and being sustained by a yet bigger pattern. If one thread tears, all the threads resonate, and the pattern adapts, sways…
EARTHLING – Conduit of Emotions is a totem to the many ways in which we are interconnected amongst each other, showing and rejoicing the potentiality arising from this – the potential existing within each person and belonging to all of us.
Earthling – Conduit of Emotions is a part of MICROMOON art collection that is planned to be delivered to the Moon’s South Pole in LifeShip pyramid aboard Astrolab’s FLIP Rover on Astrobotic’s Griffin lander, in 2026.
Eva Petrič, multimedia artist, born in Slovenia, based in Vienna and New York City, works in photography, video, performance, installation, sound, scents and writing. She holds a BA in psychology and visual arts from Webster University Vienna, and an MFA in new media, from Transart Institute (New York /Berlin) and Danube University Krems. Her art has been shown in over 110 solo and 150 group exhibitions all over the world. She has a keen interest in communicating science topics through art. In 2015 she was the artist of the 2015 EGU conference in Vienna, Austria. In the same year she took part in the lunar simulation mission at ESA ESTEC where she focused on the problem of combating feelings of isolation during space missions – out of this experience she developed concrete art projects and products. Her mini artwork was part of the MoonGallery residing at the ISS in Earth Low Orbit from 2022 to 2023.
